What is the Average Cost of a 50 Foot Boat?

While we use the equation of $1 million per 3.3 feet for larger yachts of 100ft and over, this doesn’t always translate into the same figures for boats 78ft and under. Once you reach the 50ft category, you will be looking at boats with multiple cabins, large indoor and outdoor living spaces and possibly some unique extras like water toys or fancy electronics that can raise the price.

While you may be able to find some 50ft yachts on the brokerage market and from boat dealers for under $50,000, you’ll likely be looking at prices closer to $200,000 and up.

How Much Does it Cost to Maintain a 50 Foot Boat?

When speaking about luxury yachts (vessels 79ft and over), we usually recommend budgeting 10 – 20% of the purchase price of the yacht to go toward your annual maintenance costs. With smaller vessels of around 50ft, you’re likely looking at no more than 10% of the purchase price to maintain the boat annually. When you buy your 50ft boat, the broker or boat dealer you purchase it from will be able to give you some guidance on what the running costs were for that particular boat, so you have a better number in mind.

Various factors can impact on the maintenance costs – from the age and length of the boat to the current state of the electronics or engines, these can all increase (or decrease) the budget you should set aside for annual maintenance fees.
