Being held from December 26 – December 30, 2023, the Cockburn Sound Regatta will return for its 65th edition in Rockingham, Western Australia. Known as the one of “Western Australia’s premier events” the Regatta brings sailboats and spectators to Fremantle and surrounding areas to watch this iconic event on every sailor’s calendar.
According to the host, The Cruising Yacht Club of WA, “The festivities start on the morning of Boxing Day when many of the Metro based boats enter the Kwinana Industries Council Race to Rockingham to bring them down into the sheltered waters of Mangles Bay. An arrival in the early afternoon gives everyone a chance to enjoy a few drinks over a barbeque and the chance to renew acquaintances and relive stories from years gone by.”
Over the course of the event, sailors will partake in a number of races including an Around the Buoys, Windward Leeward and Passage Races, all depending on weather conditions. Events are chosen to include all boat types that want to partake – from high-tech carbon fliers to stubby keeled cruisers, a multihull or an off the beach dinghy, there will be an event for every sailor.
Aside from the racing taking place across the speaking waters of Mangles Bay, the Regatta includes a number of social activities like live music, themed buffets, and a quiz night.
