Earlier this week, Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito took the Stanley Cup on a celebratory trip to the Florida Keys, adding a playful twist to the team’s ongoing victory tour. One of his stops included the Theater of the Sea in Islamorada, where the iconic trophy met some new aquatic friends at the marine mammal park.
Over the years, countless championship teams have toasted their victories with a celebratory drink from the Stanley Cup. But Bill Zito may have set a new precedent becoming perhaps the first to feed fish to a seal out of the legendary trophy.
Later in the day, Zito took the Cup out to the sandbar to enjoy the sun and surf. It was here that a police officer was photographed holding the trophy onboard a Monroe County Sheriff Department’s patrol vessel. Said a caption on the department’s Facebook page, “Islamorada Marine Deputy made sure the Stanley Cup was safe and secure during its recent visit to the sandbar! Shout out to your NHL Champion Florida Panthers!”
