SILENT Yachts has unveiled its latest high-performance, electric production boat: SILENT Speed 28 at Cannes Yachting Festival. A result of its strategic collection with eD-TEC, this new 8.6m (28ft) rigid inflatable boat will be capable of achieving a top speed of 60 knots. Powered by 200kW electric motors, this new vessel demonstrates the ongoing development of electric vessels in the yacht industry.

The SILENT Speed 28

The SILENT Speed 28 boasts futuristic features with foil assistance and embedded solar cells on the hardtop. The SILENT shipyard believes this boat would be an ideal tender for a superyacht. It offers flexible seating for up to 10 boat guests and has a range of over 70-miles at a 30-knot cruising speed.

In a statement to the press, SILENT’s founder and CEO Michael Köhler discussed the latest model.

“With 18 years of experience in designing and building solar-powered catamarans, we were hungry to push the boundaries again. The SILENT Speed 28 has been developed in cooperation with Michael Jost (CEO & Founder of eD-Tec, former Head of Group Strategy Product and CSO of Volkswagen Brand) and his team. Our combined know-how coupled with continuing technological advances have made it possible to develop a model line that combines spectacular performance with impressive range.”

Strategic Partnership of Silent Group and eD-TEC

The project marks the start of a strategic partnership between the SILENT Group and eD-TEC with its ‘drivetrain’ technology. This collaboration means that the new 28 boat models will have a range of innovative features. The SILENT SPEED 28 benefits from foil assisted efficiency that reduces drag, increases range, and improves comfort for boat guests. The advanced electronic system on board is powered by Artificial Intelligence that continually adjusts while underway to reduce the roll and pitch of the boat. The specially designed eD-Platform user interface makes all controls available via a touchscreen.

SILENT Yachts is well-known for its catamaran boats and the boat hull of the SILENT Speed 28 is similar to these types of vessels, with two narrow hulls in the water and a broad bow above the waterline. The lightweight structure is formed of carbon fiber. As with all electronic vessels, a dedicated charging point is required to refuel the boat’s power. SILENT Yachts estimates that this can take as little as 40 minutes, depending on the power system.

SILENT anticipates that the first 28 boat model will be available in just a few months.
