Purchased by an American owner, the Darwin 86 has been completed with bespoke configurations, machinery and a yacht layout designed with input from the owner and their desires. Notably, the yacht hull has been reinforced with bullet proof steel plates so that owner can take their new yacht into challenging waters and locations off the beaten path.

At 85.4ft (26m), EMPIRE features design and aesthetics by Hydro Tec with interior designs by Massari Design. With a desire to cruise for long periods at a time, in high altitudes, special attention was given to an “ice belt” at waterline with enhanced provisions to cope with icy conditions. A fourth pilot station is also located in the engine room at the owner’s request.

Vasco Buonpensiere, Co-Founder and the CEO shares, “The Darwin Class continues to provide us with great satisfaction, firmly establishing itself as a reference in the explorer yachts’ market. This Darwin 86 adds up to a total of twelve Darwins from 86 to 112 feet already delivered.”

The 86ft EMPIRE fits an impressive amount of interior yacht space onboard. A large, full beam owner’s stateroom is located on the lower deck amidships, with two twin cabins with pullman beds nearby and a VIP suite located forward. A total of four crew members are located on the main deck forward with a crew mess connected to the wheelhouse on the upper deck by a dedicated staircase.

Outside, large social spaces can be found in the dining and social areas, while a gym is located on the upper deck with a well-furnished sun deck with sun beds to enjoy every view.

Filippo Dall’Aglio, Project Manager at CdM comments, “The direct relationship with the owner, his 360° involvement in the development of the project at all stages, his emotional at seeing what were just ideas or drawings become reality, are why I do the best job in the world, in the best place.”

EMPIRE is powered by twin Scania engines 294 kW and 3 Northern Light generators for a total of 155 kW and sodium-lithium chloride batteries. The wheelhouse offers advanced handling and integrated monitoring and control systems for navigation in those remote areas, while the yacht is fully protected by an anti-intrusion system.
