Royal Huisman History
The renowned Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman was established in 1884 when it first built fishing vessels and wooden workboats. Later in 1954, Jan Huisman, founder, began building in steel, and ten years later, his son began pioneered the use of aluminum to build their sailing boats. When it joined forces with Sparkman & Stephens in the 70s, the yard started its stint on the racing circuit with 60ft (18m) RUNNING TIDE, a prize-winning sloop. Today, the shipyard constructs fully customized yachts of all types, and has built significant sailing yachts including the second largest sailing yacht on the water to date, the 295ft (90m) ATHENA; the shipyard also refits yachts of all types, including motor yachts.
