Company History

Started by designer and creator Gérard Danson and Daniel Cailloux, a brilliant shipyard technician, Outremer catamarans were first built when these two nautical experts combined forces.

The duo first launched a 40-ft catamaran that was light-weight, seaworthy and powerful – intended for off-shore cruising. Meaning “overseas” in French, Outremer built yet another catamaran as they were officially launching the company. The French company also launched a new 50-foot model that was created to offer more entertainment and living space as well as comfort. The company expanded and built additional hangars to increase productivity. They hired even more specialists to lead the way in building exceptional catamarans that were used to win races and rallies such as the Transat des Alizés, Transat des Passionnés, Transmed, the ARC, and more.

In 2005, Gerard Danson passed, which marked the end of the yard’s first era, however, just two years later, Grand Large Yachting group relaunched production and pursued the collaboration of the best multihull naval architects. This new era began with the Outremer 49, with the company committed to sustainability. The company continues to and aspires to be devoted to environmentally friendly yachting with each blue water catamaran it builds.
