About

AB Yachts

When AB Yachts was founded in 1992, it had a singleminded strategy: Think outside the box and create a fast boat for those cruisers addicted to the enjoyment of taking it slow.

To accomplish that, the Italian shipyard turned its engineers and designers loose. Nothing was ruled out – computer modeling, aerospace yacht concepts, non-standard solutions, state-of-the-art adhesives, ultramodern composites – whatever it took to capture this particular clientele.

AB Yachts: Premium Materials, Innovative Technology

As a result, AB Yachts ended up pioneering the vessel production of water-jet engines for smaller luxury yachts. It turns out that water-jet propulsion is the best system for those looking for superior performance, comfort, maneuverability and safety. (Some of the earlier models also run standard motors along with water-jet engines, increasing the range and speed.)

Water-jet propulsion is a game-changer, especially when you pair it with advanced construction technologies, lightweight, efficient composite hulls and bolt-less connections and advanced adhesives. AB Yachts – now the worldwide leader in this market segment – depended on these cutting-edge materials and technology to deliver safe, powerful, vibration-free yachts.

Water-Jet Propulsion

Since there’s water everywhere, water-jet propulsion makes a lot of sense. Here’s how it works: Just like a standard motor, water-jets are placed at the back of the boat. Water is drawn in, processed within the system and then exits through the aft-most nozzle at a high velocity, propelling the boat forward. It’s fast, quiet and eco-friendly. Based on the current technology, water-jet systems are most suitable for small trawlers, personal and charter yachts.

In 2001, the Fipa Group, also home to the Maiora, Intermare and CBI Navi (customizable metal ships) brands, acquired AB Yachts. By that time, the company had created a line of eight open-style, custom models ranging from 58 feet to 146 feet.

What to expect from the AB Yacht Models

AB 58

Here are a few features to look for on the yacht models that anchor the AB line: The smallest AB yacht model is the 58. It makes a terrific day cruiser and has plenty of space on the bow for relaxing and sunbathing. The aft deck has room for both a lounge and a covered dining area and is ideal for entertaining. AB 58s typically have two cabins (one double and one twin) and can accommodate four guests. A swim platform located aft provides easy access to the water.

AB 145

To date, the largest AB yacht model is the 145. Even with 10 guests, this luxury vessel has plenty of room to get away from it all. The master suite is on the main deck and there are five deluxe cabins below. Amenities vary, but typically include spacious deck areas for sunning, entertaining and simply relaxing, a swim platform, gym, A/C, WiFi, stabilizers, and expansive, elegantly designed interior and exterior spaces.

Because AB Yachts collaborates with the customer from layout to launch, no two are the same. Today, AB Yachts produces around 30 of their customized boats each year at the Fipa shipyard in Massa, on the Ligurian coast in Italy.
