Italian shipyard Tankoa Yachts has unveiled its latest design, the sleek 50m explorer yacht T500 Tethys.
Nicknamed the ‘SUV of the seven seas’ thanks to its sea-worthy capabilities, the lightweight yacht comes in at just under 500 GT. An exciting addition to Tankoa Yachts’ extensive array of high-quality luxury yachts, the T500 Tethys follows the trend of ‘pocket explorer’ yachts that have emerged in recent years – yachts that offer owners all the facilities and amenities of a larger vessel in a much more compact space.
Tankoa Yachts CEO Vincenzo Poerio explained that the T500 Tethys fills gap in the shipyard’s existing range and offers an explorer vessel with distinctly Tankoa qualities: “We know both today’s and tomorrow’s owners are looking for flexibility above all […] the only limit is the owner’s imagination.”

Tankoa’s T500 Tethys: Fluid and Dynamic But Still Geometrically Pure
Both the yacht exterior and interior of the T500 Tethys model were conceptualized by the Milan-based studio Hot Lab. Enrico Lumini, Partner and Head of Design at Hot Lab comments: “It is fluid and dynamic in its shape but still geometrically pure, and free of any useless constructive complications. I believe that this new T500 Tethys […] is perfectly current, real, and futuristic at the same time.”
The flexible layout offers two convertible spaces on the lower deck that can be designed as additional cabins, a gym, an owner’s private salon or more communal spaces. The T500 Tethys features a generous sundeck complete with a Jacuzzi, sunpads, a bar, barbecue, and bathroom. Her full-beam owner’s suite is particularly impressive and benefits from an en-suite bathroom, and lounge area.

The Hot Lab design has maximized all the space available on board and this is especially clear in the generous upper aft dining and lounge area and the aft platform. This area of the yacht can host a spectacular infinity pool or could be configured to accommodate tenders, toys, or a helicopter. The T500 Tethys is offered with a variety of propulsion options, traditional, diesel-electric or hybrid.
The scope of customization on the T500 Tethys, as well as the focus on world-cruising capabilities, reflects the changing priorities of yacht owners. YATCO looks forward to seeing the first delivery of this highly anticipated yacht.
