How did you get your start in yachting?

When I was attending Broward College in 1981, a professor called me into his office after a test and asked me if there was anything else I wanted to do with my life. I dropped out of school and started working at a boat rental on Ft. Lauderdale beach. From there, it was sailing and then working my way from deckhand to a captain on superyachts.

Is there anyone in particular who influences you – someone in the industry that you look up to, and why?

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention everyone that has inspired me in the past and present and will simply say I am deeply in debt to our entire industry for all my life’s work and experiences.

What do you enjoy most about the yachting industry – and what do you wish you could change?

The camaraderie and connection that we all have is no less than family and I cherish this the most.

Although we have come so far in the education of yacht crew and trades, I would like to see more mandatory education and continuing education on the sales side as it would help us all to be more knowledgeable and efficient.

What are some of the challenges you come across at work, and how do you approach them?

Sometimes the challenge is getting the historical data on a certain yacht, while other times it is an administrative or logistical one. In each case, I reach out to another team member at Worth Avenue Yachts and always get the answer. This isn’t a shameless plug but a compliment to the best people I know.

Tell us about your greatest accomplishment.

Earning the respect of my peers and knowing that my phone number is programmed into the phones of some very wonderful people.
