Fire destroyed S/Y OBSESSION II while anchored in Phuket, Thailand

On May 20, 2024, a fire took place onboard OBSESSION II while it was anchored in Chalong Bay by Koh Lon, an island near Phuket, Thailand. Around 3pm local time, the Royal Thai Navy was alerted to the situation and sent two boats to respond. It is reported that two boats, likely belonging to locals, also arrived on scene to help.

On May 20, 2024, a fire took place onboard OBSESSION II while it was anchored in Chalong Bay by Koh Lon, an island near Phuket, Thailand. Upon arrival, first responders attempted to use the vessel’s fire extinguishing systems until being forced to evacuate for their own safety. The fire burned for approximately three and a half hours until it was controlled. While OBSESSION II sustained severe damage, including a completely leveled mast, the full scope of the damage is still being evaluated. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.

Thankfully, no injuries occurred. The Navy reported that at the time of the incident, OBSESSION II was unmanned, as its yacht crew had allegedly gone ashore for supplies. Find a short video clip about this incident here.
