Joe Neber, a native Miamian and avid fisherman, was on his way to law school, but a summer job at Sea-Vee changed the trajectory of his life. Two years later, in 1984, he founded Contender Boats and launched the iconic Classic 25. Today, Contender Boats manufactures about 350 boats a year in its shipyard in Homestead, Florida. Ranging in size from 25 to 44 feet, Contender Boats leads the industry in the world of center console sportfishing.
360 Degrees of Fish-Ability
Contender center console boats make it easy to fight a fish anywhere on the boat. Along with portability, here are just a few other reasons why new and used Contender fishing boats are so popular: cockpits go all the way to the engines, toe-kick design allows you to lean in and brace yourself against the rail and, as every angler knows, you can get on a fish faster from the bow.
There’s a running debate between inboard and outboard builders and owners as to which raises more fish. Contender, often referred to as the benchmark of center consoles, chooses to power all its center console boats with Yamaha outboard engines. They’re ideal for recreational and inshore fishing, easy to access, store and service. Plus, they’re fuel efficient, and the demand for used outboard motors is huge.
Catch Fish. Win Tournaments.
The 25-foot Contender bay boat may be the smallest in the Contender fleet, but according to testers from Florida Sportsman Best Boat, Saltwater Fishing and other offshore aficionados it is a best in class fishing boat. The 25 Contender bay boat is reliable, and with single or twin Yamaha outboards outpaces other boats in its class.
When first launched, the 26-ft Contender was often held up as the benchmark of center consoles. Just like the 25 Contender bay boats for sale, the 26-ft Contender is composed of a vacuum-infused fiberglass hull, liner and cap.
New and used 27-foot Contender boats for sale are loaded with features fisherman love: plenty of deck space, recessed grab rails and toe kicks along with standard twin cockpit fishboxes, raised transom live wells, forward fishboxes and transom doors.
The next step up from the 25 ft contender bay boat is the Classic 28 Tournament Contender. The Contender 28T has the same features –– it’s just bigger. Spacious fish boxes and two livewells make the anglers onboard happy.
A versatile coastal boat, the 30-ft Contender boat, tagged the 30ST (Stepped Tournament) is the first Contender with a stepped hull. The 30-ft Contender boats for sale are faster, have a wider range and are more economical to run. The 30ST Contender has plenty of standard features as well as lots of ways to customize, including slide-out coolers, built-in tackle stations and flush-mount rod holders.
Contender 31 and 32 ST
The 31 Contender has won more world records than any other stepped or deep-V-hulled boats, and the 32 ST is right on its keel when it comes to dominating the offshore scene. Both are highly customizable tournament fishing boats that have a level deck, raised livewells and can be rigged for any fishing scenario.
The 35ST is the first Contender center console to offer the stepped hull or deep-V design. The hand-laid fiberglass construction contributes to a smoother ride. Everything about the 35 Contender boat is bigger and better: The nonskid deck is safer, the cockpit is roomier and the livewell is bigger (50-gallons).
Winding up in the winner’s circle is what the 39ST Contender center console is all about. And, it’s no fish tale this boat outperforms competitors in the 40-foot class. With its cutting-edge stepped hull or traditional deep-V design, wide gunwales and all the custom options available, it’s an angler’s dream.
The 44-foot Contender boat breaks all kinds of records for speed, performance, reliability and comfort. It’s Contender’s largest to date: 12-foot beam, 44 feet long, king-size sun lounge, carries 600 gallons of fuel and is powered by triple or quad Yamaha XTO 425 Engines.
