YATCO Supports Marine Science and Environmental Research Initiatives

YATCO is supporting the South Florida based nonprofit ANGARI Foundation, which is preparing to celebrate 4 years next month. The vision for the Foundation was conceived nearly two decades ago when the Rosenberg family brainstormed the idea of combining their individual passions, experiences and expertise toward the creation of a mission-driven nonprofit. Their goal: support marine scientists in the field, educate students in the classroom and engage members of the community in open dialogue to advance ocean science and education and to promote sustainability for the benefit of our planet and society.

Who is ANGARI?

At ANGARI, Angela and Kari Rosenberg incorporate their professional expertise in marine science and film, respectively, with their lifelong passions for boating, SCUBA diving and the ocean. From birth, Angela and Kari were on the water and could be found strapped into the cockpit of their parent’s sailboat traveling throughout the Caribbean islands. As teenagers, they SCUBA dived for the first-time off Maui, Hawaii, which led them to obtain PADI Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver certifications. And during college, both continued to follow their passions and became United States Coast Guard Master 100 GRT licensed boat captains. They grew up exploring the marine environment, observing the expansive and amazing underwater world and ultimately realized that it was their responsibility to give back and support the marine sciences.

Angela explains, “It’s hard to understand and value something that you haven’t seen or experienced. My sister and I were lucky enough to be out on the water, boating, diving and snorkeling, while growing up. Those memories are what led me to study marine science in college and guided my appreciation for the environment. To this day, my desire to explore and learn continues to grow. Because we know how special our experience as youth was and recognize that not everyone has the opportunity to get a glimpse into what it’s like to be a marine scientist, we’ve made it our mission to reach the general public and increase ocean exposure through our programs and outreach.”

Mission-Driven

The ANGARI Foundation is dedicated to creating a global community that is interested, knowledgeable and invested in marine and environmental sciences by directly supporting research initiatives that foster a greater trust and dialogue between scientists and the public. The Foundation uses innovative technology, film and other media to raise awareness and strengthen science education. Many of the Foundation’s primary initiatives involve R/V ANGARI, its 65-foot oceanographic research vessel that serves as an exceptional research and education platform.

All of ANGARI’s programs aim to support marine science research and STEM education. With this in mind, R/V ANGARI is offered to scientists, educators and filmmakers at low cost, to enable increased exploration and research. The Foundation shares important research topics through in-person, virtual, film and outreach initiatives that promote learning and build open communication between scientists, students and the public.
