Company History
MJM Yachts was founded in 2002 by Bob Johnstone, who had co-founded J Boats, Inc., the leading brand of performance sailboats worldwide 25 years prior. Bob selected Boston BoatWorks as the building partner for MJM’ first boat built and continues to produce every MJM Yacht from their modern, purpose-built composite boat building facility in the maritime zone of Boston’s inner harbor. The first boat, an MJM 34z, marked the birth of a long line of seaworthiness, performance, and ease-of-handling powerboats.
The yacht builder has built nearly 300 yachts to date, ranging from 29 to 50 feet. A leader in fuel-efficient powerboats, MJM utilizes “green” technology to create eco-friendly yachts. The IPS-powered MJM 40z and 50z are the world’s most fuel-efficient powerboats. These vessels have among the highest resale value of any yachts on the market.
Continual Innovation and Product Development
Over MJM’s 18 year history as a yacht builder, they have committed themselves to continual innovation and product development that would set themselves apart from their competition. The real difference between MJM and other brands is the way that these yachts are built. They have a very high-quality composite construction developed by their partners at Boston BoatWorks, which resulted in a very strong, light, and durable boat renowned for its excellent fuel efficiency. Perhaps a unique feature of the company’s building process is their use of epoxy, which has three to five times the flexural strength of polyester or vinyl ester resins. MJM Yachts are also noted for their ease of docking due to their flush deck design and hovering technologies to make even the least experienced crew member capable of safely bringing the boat to the slip. MJM Yachts’ “Made in the USA” innovation allows their 100+ yacht owners to significantly lower their operating costs while having a yacht that’s fun to drive on a daily, spur-of-the-moment basis.
