Founded in 1965 by Gunter Knierim, the traditional boat yard Knierim Yachtbau consistently grew a name for itself beyond its German borders building performance cruiser sailboats. By the year 2000, Gunter’s son Gunnar took the helm and two years later, the experienced offshore sailor Steffen Muller joined the company and helped build the 86ft IRC racer, which at the time, was the largest German ocean racer built. At the same time, Knierim Yachtbau moved to a new location on the Kiel Canal, Germany. The facilities include three production halls, a paint cabin, and a large oven, plus a smaller one for parts. There are also two additional halls with one large 5-axis milling machine and one smaller one. There is plenty of space to launch boats with their 30-ton lift. The yard also conducts repairs and refits and is specialized in carbon and glass fiber repairs, as well as in repairing teak decks and other wooden parts.
