The 360ft (110m) Oceanco built superyacht KAOS was vandalized over the weekend while in port in Ibiza. Protestors from the Climate Crisis group, Futuro Vegetal, approached the yacht and proceeded to spray biodegradable paint from fire extinguishers all across the stern. The two protestors, who were later arrested, held up a sign that stated, “You Consume, Others Suffer.”
KAOS is currently owned by Walmart heiress, Nancy Walton Laurie, with the organization bragging on their website that they “destroyed the mega yacht of the richest woman in the world, Nancy Walton Laurie.”
According to their website, they state, “We are a collective of civil disobedience and direct action that fights against the Climate Crisis by adopting a plant-based agri-food system.” This was not their first target of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, as they also used the same fire extinguishers loaded with paint to coat a private jet in Ibiza just days earlier.
The two vandals were arrested on the spot by the Spanish Civil Guard with an expected release date of today, before appearing in court at a later date.
While the crew members were quick to try and hose off the paint, it is expected to cost millions of dollars to fully repair.
A video of their vandalism was posted to the Futuro Vegetal Twitter account, and can be viewed here.
