Next Generation of the Yachting World - Part 1: Tommaso Chiabra, President and Co-Founder of Royal Yacht International

The next generation of yachting is up and coming, fresh, and has a lot to offer. Looking to the future of the yachting world, YATCO interviews several new faces of yachting to discover what they have to offer the industry and what they predict for the future of yachting. See below on what President & Co-Founder of Royal Yacht International, Tommaso Chiabra, has to say.

Tommaso Chiabra, President and Co-Founder of Royal Yacht International

Tell us about how you got your start in yachting.

While I was at university with my partner, we started a concierge service for UHNW students, whenever a yacht enquiry was received, yacht brokerages were not easy to reach or reacted very slowly and without using modern technology such as emails or WhatsApp.  Therefore, we founded Royal Yacht International as a b2b technology focused research engine for customers and partners to execute their mega yacht tasks globally and quickly.

As a professional in yachting, what trends have you seen and what do you predict for the coming years?

The forthcoming years will be particularly interesting within the yachting industry as a lot of inventory has been ordered for new construction during the “Covid rush”, resulting in a lot of work for the brokerage side.

We are lucky to be the first in line to a new generation of wealth and tech entrepreneurs.

What kinds of challenges have you been up against in yachting and how do you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges we have faced has been the lack of modern technology and tools at our disposal, the yachting industry is very old school and traditional in this way compared to other industries.

Considering the sheer value of these floating properties, it really is surprising. We are constantly developing new and innovative ways to improve this with the aim of successfully reaching our loyal community and rewarding our clients with a quality yachting experience every time.

Please tell us about some of your most memorable and successful moments, professionally.

Despite the initial fear of Covid and not knowing how it would affect our industry as a whole, 2021 was one of our most rewarding years to date at Royal Yacht International. With the successful sale of 6 yachts including the brand new 65.40m Benetti TRIUMPH, 63.00m Benetti METIS, 49.68m Feadship BLU 470, 38.60m Gulf Craft MAJESTY, WALLY Tender and the AXOPAR 37.

What do you aspire to for the future?

“Our focus is centered on new green/electric mobility within the marine sector. Our aim is to inspire clients to build eco-friendly yachts and to explore green projects for their new construction builds.”

We are partnered with E1 Series, which will be the first ever electric boat race around the world, resetting global standards for the industry.
