Prior to work beginning in October, the yard in Livorno had to undergo its own set of refurbishments in order to accommodate the iconic sailing yacht. A special system had to be designed on the floating dock in order to accommodate the yacht’s 19.8ft (6m) draft and hull design.
Yacht Refit List
Built in 2006, this year’s refit included a long list of upgrades including the generators, main engines, and propellers; while also dedicating time to the impressive mast handling system, which was a huge challenge given its incredible complexity. The hull was completely repainted in the distinctive “Perini Blue” color, adding another complexity to the project since the paint has unique chemical and physical characteristics.
In addition, the teak deck was also replaced, and the interiors upgraded to create a more welcoming, elegant, and comfortable night area. A fully appointed galley to serve guests lunch and dinner was also created. The work commissioned also included routine maintenance, while special attention was also given to improving the yacht’s fuel consumption and reducing emissions thanks to the upgraded onboard systems.
The commercial director of Lusben, Gianni Paladino shared, “We couldn’t have made it through to this technical launch, while ensuring the high standards of quality we want to offer Lusben customers, had it not been for our professional team’s expertise in tackling such a complex project. It was a great privilege to work on a boat like the MALTESE FALCON, but the congratulations really go to the whole team coordinated by site manager Alessio Centelli for the great job done.”
Working in collaboration with the yard, the skipper of MALTESE FALCON, Pierfrancesco Cafaro commented, “I’ve had the chance in the past to appreciate Lusben and the services they offer, which is why I was happy to collaborate with them again. The work we carried out in synergy with their team was incredible. For both us and the owner company, working with the shipyard meant having the confidence that all our requests would be handled promptly and professionally. With Lusben’s help, we’ll be ready in June to welcome our customers and make their holiday on the water an unforgettable experience.”
The yard is completing the finishing touches of the refit this month with full relaunch due by end of May ahead of this summer’s charter season in the Mediterranean.
