YATCO’s Broker of the Month series examines the influences and catalysts that brought these brokers into the world of yachting, discovers who influenced them, and explores what they seek to change within the yachting industry.
This month’s feature is Christian Franco, Director of Nest Yachts.
How did you get your start in yachting?
Yachting has been a family affair for generations. My father, a captain, was introduced to the yachting industry by my grandfather, who was an engineer. As a result, I also became a captain at a young age and went on to become a yacht broker. We run a yacht management company together and have our own fleet.
What do you enjoy most about the yachting industry and what do you wish you could change?
I most enjoy the feeling and sensation you get when out on a new yacht. It’s a unique experience that you can only feel when out there on the open ocean and it’s exciting to introduce that feeling to a client.
I would like to change the general stigma behind the broker/client relationship. To me, the trust and respect between a broker and client is the most important aspect of conducting business. My hope isn’t to make a one-time sale – it’s to create a long-term business relationship with my clients.
What sets you apart as a yacht broker?
I feel I set myself apart from the broker community by focusing on building relationships instead of focusing solely on sales. Building trust with a client provides a better experience for both parties and strengthens the business relationship. By getting to know a client, I am able to better meet their needs.
Do you have any advice for someone wishing to join the yachting industry?
My advice for anyone pursuing a career in the yachting industry is to be persistent in your pursuits. Personal ambition will take a person far in their career so never give up on your goals.
What are some of the challenges you come across at work, and how do you approach them?
Recently, I had a client who was sold an expectation that was unfortunately not met. This circles back to getting to know the client and understanding their personal desires and needs when looking for a yacht. My approach was to ask where they picture themselves in their yachting experience so I could understand how to make their dreams a reality.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment in the industry?
In general, I consider it an achievement each time I am able to provide the dream yachting experience to my clients. A specific accomplishment I’m proud of is being appointed Director of Nest Yachts.
What is your favorite yacht currently for sale and why?
My current favorite listing is the 2024 Astondoa 66 ISLA BONITA. This yacht is a combination of elegance, performance, and class. Complete with a flybridge, multiple outdoor lounge spaces, and a tender, this 66ft vessel has four luxury cabins and three heads. It’s the perfect yacht for day trips or weekend getaways.
