Founded by Ralph Schacter in 1988, Alerion yachts was inspired by the daysailer designed and built by Nathanael Herreshoff called the Alerion III. Schacter’s goal was to blend the timeless lines of Herreshoff’s design with the performance of a modern design by Carl Schumacher, and he succeeded with the Alerion 28. Seven of these boats were built in 1990/91, and eventually, a company called TPI purchased the rights and produced 25 more a year later.
