A Brief History of Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show

The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show began in 1956 as part of the Easter Show at the Auckland Showgrounds and became a standalone event the following year. Over the next two decades, it grew in scale and popularity, evolving through several name changes before becoming the “New Zealand Boat Show” in 1978.

Renamed the “Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show” in 2001, the event introduced new features such as the Boat of the Show Awards and was recognized as Australasia’s best boat show by 2011. XPO Exhibitions acquired the event in 2022 and secured the future of the Auckland Showgrounds, reinforcing the show’s long-standing cultural and economic importance.
