The island of Cuba evokes thoughts of retro cars, revolutions, cigars and salsa; and to visit you wouldn’t be far wrong. The island capital of Havana is a city locked in the 60s thanks to Castro. Although this stunted the growth of the country significantly it means its architecture and ambiance has been retained. As yet you wont find fast-food chains or flashy new cars, instead you will be entertained by live music, and people with a true zest for life –when you have been sheltered from the modern world, life’s simplicities such as dance and music truly come into their own. Lying in-between the US and South America with the Caribbean on its doorstep, historically this island has struggled to find its identity, but with influences from France, the US, Jamaica and Spain its rich heritage cannot be denied.
