Apreamare was founded by Giovanni Aprea in 1849 when he started by hand-building rowing and sailing boats that were used for fishing in Sorrento, Italy. The tradition was passed along to his son and eventually his grandson, and the company has remained a family business since. The family eventually began building pleasure boats, as this was the trend at the time. In 1973, Cataldo Aprea joined the company, and this was a turning point for them, as he came into the company with new groundbreaking ideas. In 2001, Apreamare joined the Ferretti Group, a fruitful collaboration, however in 2010, the company was able to break out again on its own.
