CATAMARANS AND TRIMARANS FOR SALE

Although most boats are a monohull, there is the option to own a multi-hull boat. When a boat has two hulls, it’s called a catamaran, which has two equally sized sponsons. A trimaran has one larger center hull flanked by two equally sized outer hulls.

The wide beam of a multihull yacht increases stability in all kinds of seas. Originally, multihulled vessels were strictly sailing vessels but in recent years a number of motoryachts are entering the market.

Trimarans tend to be performance-racing vessels, but even catamarans offer higher speeds than comparable length monohulls thanks to the narrower point of entry of the hulls through the water.

When choosing a cruising cat, there are several layouts available but often the cabins are in the hulls and the common areas are between. The greater beam than a comparable monohull also means that there’s additional interior volume, perfect for when the owners are planning on spending more time onboard.

Although there a plenty of reasons to investigate multihulled vessels, the beamy boats are hampered by their size when it comes to navigating narrow channels or tight marinas.
