SPORTFISHERMAN YACHTS FOR SALE

Although any boat can be a fishing boat with the addition of a rod and reel, if an owner wants to back down on a tuna or other big game fish they will need a sportfisherman.

Highly maneuverable and designed to handle tough seas, a sportfisherman is designed with a long foredeck and plenty of cockpit space. There will be plenty of space to handle many trolling lines on outriggers and sometimes a tuna tower will reach high above the flybridge helm to help spot the prize fish.

The most common sportfisherman vessels are the open, express, and the convertible. The convertible has a more enclosed helm and a bit more interior space than an open model, but both are in the 45-foot and above range. Express sportfish are on the smaller end, in the 35-foot range and have less interior space. Most of the action takes place in the cockpit of a sportfisherman, but those anglers looking for action on the foredeck should seek out a walkaround yacht with wide sidedecks.

Many boats were developed based on their regional purposes but none as much as the Chesapeake Bay Deadrise yacht. The yacht was developed for the specific needs of fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and features a steep freeboard and plenty of cockpit space.

There are a few well-known manufacturers of sportfishermen but there are also custom builders to fine tune an owner’s preferences into the ultimate performance machine.
