ABOUT SHEAR MADNESS

Safety and comfort at sea is the Nordhavn hallmark, and Shear Madness is the most perfect long distance cruising yacht in this size. She is beautifully built and maintained, thoughtfully and thoroughly equipped, and absolutely ready for her next adventure.

As a broker with 26 years’ experience I have rarely seen a boat maintained in such excellent condition.  I sold this boat to current owner 6+ years ago and I can tell you not only is the maintenance 100%, but every time they made repairs, improvements were made.  The licensed Yachtmaster owners took NO short cuts and made substantial improvements to one of the premier Ocean going trawlers on the market.  A buyer’s surveyor will be hard pressed to find anything negative to write in his report. I have looked closely and cannot find so much as slightly blemished hose clamp.

To truly appreciate this wonderful explorer yacht a buyer must make the time to inspect her

U.S. DUTY PAID and has both British and US registry numbers.

OVERVIEW

Shear Madness is hull number two of this popular series. Built with the utmost attention to detail for which this builder is renowned, and meticulously maintained by an experienced owner, she is offered for sale in spotless condition.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Shear Madness sleeps eight people in four ensuite staterooms. The yacht's interior paneling is beautifully built in American cherry in an interesting two tone scheme. Rails and styles are in a darker stain, and field panels and drawer fronts are in a lighter one.

MAIN SALOON

Shear Madness has what Nordhavn calls their "wide body" design which has a side deck only on the starboard side. The saloon is therefore only a couple of feet less than the full beam of the yacht. A four foot wide sliding door opens the saloon to the aft deck. To port is a large dining table with drop leaves and six comfortable dining chairs. Outboard, a sideboard beneath the three large windows conceals a 42" LCD television which rises at a command of a simple remote control.  The starboard side has a handsome and comfortable built in three person leather sofa facing a coffee table, flanked by two leather arm chairs. The floor is varnished teak and holly beneath a fitted and bound pale cream carpet over Sounddown ™ liner.

GALLEY

Forward of the saloon on the port side, the galley, which is open to the saloon but separated by a wide black stone counter, has a walkaround center island topped with a butcher block.

OWNER’S CABIN

Just forward of the galley, this magnificent room occupies the full beam of the yacht. A king sized walkaround berth is against the aft bulkhead just off centerline to port, and a small desk with chair is to starboard. Hanging lockers, lockers and drawers abound providing more storage than one could ever hope to fill.  The ensuite master bath is forward to starboard with a granite countertop vanity, stall shower, and tile flooring.

GUEST STATEROOMS

A staircase from the pilothouse lands in a generous lobby in the forward part of the ship. The ship's laundry is located here, convenient to the two mirror image guest staterooms forward, and via a "laundry chute" from the owner's stateroom. The guest staterooms each have a generous queen sized berth outboard, hanging lockers and drawer storage, and an ensuite bathroom with stall shower.

Beneath the guest staterooms, entered via a hatch in the floor of the guest lobby, is a vast storage area containing the ship's battery banks and mechanical equipment and, via a watertight door, providing access to the ship's tanks. All bulky provisions for extended cruising can be safely stored here.

CREW QUARTERS

The crew quarters are on the lower deck beneath the galley and just forward of the engine room bulkhead. The cabin, finished like the rest of the yacht in two tone cherry, has a queen sized berth against the forward bulkhead, and would be perfectly suitable as a guest stateroom if crew are not employed. The crew bathroom with stall shower is across a small lobby to starboard outside the engine room door.

PILOTHOUSE

This commanding space is up several steps from the starboard lobby opposite the galley, and is over the master stateroom. Two tan ultra-leather Stidd chairs face the helm, and an L-shaped tan ultra-leather settee with breakfast table provide an observation area for guests behind these chairs. A convenient "off watch" berth is aft of the settee, providing a comfortable but close at hand spot during night passages.

A convenient day head is in the aft starboard corner, and the companionway stairs to the flybridge are to port. Port and starboard "stable" doors give access to the wing stations and the Portuguese bridge.

DECK

A generous molded swim/boarding platform is accessed via a gate from the aft deck. Removable stainless steel staple rails provide convenient hand holds, and a hot and cold deck shower is provided.

The aft deck has a twin Miele BBQ grill and sink, and a staircase to the boat deck. A wide sliding door opens the saloon to this area.  Forward along the starboard side deck a gate provides access when berthed alongside inboard of which is a "stable" door to the lobby opposite the galley. Further forward several steps head up to the Portuguese bridge around the pilothouse. A further gate in the bulwarks here provides access if berthed alongside a high pier or quay.

The expansive foredeck is surrounded with a sturdy stainless steel railing. A molded dunnage box and two deep "fender" lockers are provided, as well as access to the  2 independent chain lockers

Several steps on the port side of the pilothouse lead down to a boarding area and another gate in the bulwarks, outside the galley window if berthed port side to.

The flybridge, with two Stidd helm chairs, is protected from the sun by a full hardtop.  A generous C-shaped settee to starboard surrounds a breakfast table, and an essential drinks fridge is in the port aft corner.

Several steps lead down to the boat deck where the ship's tender is to starboard, and a Marquipt 3,500 lb. crane that launches tenders from either the Starboard side or from the stern is to port.  This is no ordinary tender, but rather an "explorer" vessel in its own right. Life rafts and other gear are properly stored here, and tender fuel (gasoline) station is located aft.

Teak decking is confined to the aft deck, and flybridge and starboard side deck. All other areas are molded non-skid offering the desired luxury without burdensome maintenance.
