FAIR LADY was built in the most romantic era of motor yacht design and is totally unique in her class.
FAIR LADY was one of the crowning achievements of designer C E Nicholson's career and her first owners were the French entrepreneurs and yachtsmen, Otto Bemberg and his friend Marcel Sultzbach. In the 1930s Otto Bemberg became the sole owner when his friend gave up his share. He remained the owner for nearly 50 years until his death in 1982.
Shortly before the Second World War Otto Bemberg took the precaution of re-registering FAIR LADY under the Argentinian flag and the name FAIR MAID. So she remained until the 1950s when Bemberg was convinced it was safe to return her to her original registry of Southampton and her original name FAIR LADY.
There is something of a mystery about her activities during the war as all the log books have gone missing. One theory is that she used to sail between Spain and Argentina ferrying Jewish refugees from Germany to safety in Argentina.
