Construction

1. CONSTRUCTION

HULL NUMBER  Oyster 56/37 

HULL CONSTRUCTION Hand lay-up GRP, single skin with structural stringers and floors to Lloyds approved design specification. 

HULL FINISH  White hull with cove line and double boot top lines in standard Oyster blue. 

DECK CONSTRUCTION Deck structure moulded in GRP with balsa core. 

DECK FINISH  Teak laid decks, bulwark finished with natural teak capping rail. 

KEEL  High Performance Bulb (HPB) external lead keel. 

RUDDER  Rudder protected by full-length skeg. 

STERN DESIGN The stern design incorporates a bathing platform trimmed with teak slats and stainless steel steps with teak treads for access to the stern deck. 

EU RCD Built to comply with the requirements stipulated in the European Union’s Recreational Craft Directive to meet Design Category A – ‘Ocean’. 

CHARTER CODING Built to MCA Category 2 with all associated safety equipment fitted.

2. DECK LAYOUT AND EQUIPMENT   

ANCHOR 34 kg CQR anchor and 70m of 12mm chain and 50m of Octoplait.  20kg Bruce kedge anchor, stowed in the anchor locker and 100m of 18mm Octoplait nylon warp and 10m of 12mm chain tail.  20kg kedge anchor and 10m of chain and 100m of Octoplait.  

WINDLASS Lewmar Ocean 3 vertical capstan type 24V electric anchor windlass, including remote windlass controls in cockpit.  

DECK ACCESS Midship gateway stanchions with stainless steel hinged boarding ladders which close up to form the side-gates and gate to pushpit. Extendable transom ladder to be 600mm below waterline. 3m alloy folding passerelle, including sockets in top rung of steps down to bathing platform and in pulpit for bows-to mooring.  

HATCHES Vertical drop down washboard with shock cord. Lewmar alloy-framed deck hatches. Gebo alloy-framed coaming portlights. Gebo opening hullports, including deadlights.  

CANVASWORK Sprayhood to main companionway, Colour: Dune, including leather covered stainless steel grabrail to aft edge. Bimini, including stowage bag, Colour: Dune, including clear panel and Velcro flap for boomlight and above wheel. Covers for cockpit table, pedestal and wheel in acrylic, Colour: Dune. Custom made cockpit cushions – Acrylic covers and closed-cell foam, Colour: Dune.  

DECK PLUMBING Hot and cold freshwater deck shower in starboard transom locker.  Anchor/deck wash.  Freshwater washdown off boats’s pressure system – outlet in anchor locker with hose to reach full length of boat including trigger head.  

COCKPIT Stainless steel mugrack on pedestal. Teak stand with removable 30° wedges at both ends to assist the helmsman when the boat is healing.  

COCKPIT TABLE Varnished cockpit table in teak with stainless steel frame, folding leaves, and central insulated refrigerated icebox.  Frigomatic DC refrigeration for cockpit table with keel cooler.  

STEERING 1200mm diameter stainless steel wheel and friction brake. Whitlock cable system with a remote “Athena” pedestal.  Leather wheel cover.

OUTBOARD CRANE Novalift II outboard crane on port aft quarter.  Outboard bracket – enclosed style port side of pushpit forward end.  

DAVITS         Simpson Davits S225, manual, tall configuration with 225kg capacity.  

GENERAL Scandinavian style open pulpit with teak seat/step, stainlesss steel pushpit. Oyster custom stainless steel mooring cleats, including extra aft deck mooring cleats and aft caprail fairleads for stern to mooring. Stainless steel grabrails on cabin top. Mast guards. Lazarette locker with twin stainless steel gas struts to lid. Liferaft stowage in starboard side of stainless steel pushpit. Quarter pushpit seats in teak and stainless steel. 2m stainless steel antenna pole on the starboard transom. Stowage compartment, with removable partition, at forward end of anchor locker for kedge warp and chain stowage.

MAST and RIGGING Rig – cutter. Hood slab reefing mast with Fredrikson batten cars. Fully battened mainsail with lazyjacks, and Hood boom with spare batten stowage. Painted white. Extra conduit to masthead. Mainsheet kicker and topping lift to come aft into cockpit, reefing lines and outhaul to dedicated electric winch to port of mast. Solid rod vang. Navtec hydraulic backstay adjuster with manual operating panel in cockpit and mechanical lock off. One pair of mast steps 4 feet from mast head and second pair between deck level and boom gooseneck. Second staysail halyard for redundancy / storm jib, including mast sheave and exit. Second spare mainsail halyard. Tri Sail track on mast. Second Yankee halyard – 12mm spectra. 2 x ‘No strike’ ion dissipators at masthead. Standing rigging stainless steel 1 x 19 wire rigging. Navtec stainless steel tubular covers for cap shrouds and babystay. Leather covers to innerstay bottle screws and spreader ends. 

HEADSAIL FURLING Foresail furling – Harken MK III, manual. Staysail furling – Harken MK III, manual. 

WINCHES Lewmar, self-tailing - 2 x 66 CEST primary winches, push buttons on outboard face of cockpit coaming. 2 x 54 CST secondary winches. 1 x 48 CEST electric mainsheet winch under sprayhood. 2 x 16 CST two-speed mainsheet traveller control line winches. 2 x 48 CST two-speed main and genoa halyard winches on mast. 1 x 48 CEST electric winch on deck to port of mast. 

SPINNAKER GEAR Single spinnaker pole stowed vertically on mast. Package includes chainplates, Wichard folding padeyes, Spinlock rope clutches, two halyards, sheets, guys and blocks, topping lift and downhaul. Second Spinnaker pole with topping lift, mast track, linedrive pole heel lift and mast clutch. Mast sockets for retro fit jockey pole.

INTERIOR

4. INTERIOR   

GENERAL Seven berths in four cabins, excluding the saloon. Interior joinery finished in teak. Designed to be modern and co-ordinated, whilst remaining practical and durable at sea. Essential features include sculpted fiddles and grabrails, ‘shadow-gap’ joints between panels and Oyster custom knobs for lockers and drawers. ‘Chequer-board’ style teak cabin sole. Sole boards serviced and protected in December 2013. Surfaces in galley in Avonite with upstands, colour: Nougat and in heads in Avonite, colour: Sandpiper. Headlining in off-white vinyl. Upholstery – Alcantara, colour: Amberglow. Washable loose covers for saloon and navigator seating. Lee screens on sea berths. Two director’s chairs with storage. Curtains system to windows in all cabins. OceanAir “Skyscreens” to all deck hatches. Flyscreens for all Gebo hull and coachroof ports. Hella fans in cabins, galley and workshop.   

DOUBLE FORWARD Provides a spacious double cabin in the bows, with a centerline double berth, upholstered seat  CABIN with vanity table, plentiful clothes lockers and a hanging locker.  

TWIN GUEST To port, with wider than standard upper and lower berths, lockers for clothes, a vanity unit, CABIN and hanging locker.  

FORWARD HEAD To starboard, shared by both forward cabins, accessed from passageway, incorporating a Sealand Vacuflush toilet, washbasin and separate shower stall. Hans Grohe mixer taps and shower controls. Towel rails, mirror, and a shaver socket.  

SALOON The saloon features an oval table in teak veneer with cream inlay border, including two handhold cut outs, and settee area to port, outboard of which are a pair of lockers and a central shelf to the hullports with stainless steel rods to make book rack. To starboard is another settee. The bar unit accommodates glass and bottle stowage.  

 WASHER / DRYER Bosch WVF2000 washer / dryer in forward starboard locker.  

NAVIGATION AREA The chart table can accommodate a half-folded Admiralty chart. There is a bookrack outboard at the hull-side. AC and DC electrical panels are located aft of the navigator’s bench seat. Beneath and behind this seat are fuses and access to electrical breakers.  

WORKSHOP / Cabin fitted with single berth cabin / workshop, including workbench to allow for clam-on vice  GUEST CABIN with rubber mat. Workshop door to open out forward into step recess by chart table.  

GALLEY The galley is located to port of the cockpit. All galley work surfaces are finished in Avonite, that provides a stylish, hardwearing and attractive finish to protect the surrounding timber. A large rubbish bin is fitted inside a locker door. Teak mugrack for nine mugs. 

SINKS Twin stainless steel sinks, including Seagull IV water filter on cold water supply. 

COOKER A gimbaled electric Force 10 3 hub cooker. 

MICROWAVE AEG Micromat 900W stainless steel combination microwave / grill / oven. 
REFRIGERATOR / A front-opening refrigerator and a top-opening freezer. Frigomatic 50F twin compressor with FREEZER twin plate for freezer, compressors direct water cooled. 

DISHWASHER Fisher and Paykel DS603 dishwasher. 

OWNER’S STATEROOM The aft cabin is configured with a double berth offset from the centerline, a curved settee, dressing table and a large hanging locker, with abundant drawer and locker space. Recess to forward bulkhead to house TV locker, and stainless steel rods to make book rack. From this cabin there is access to starboard to the en-suite head and to port to the galley. 

EN-SUITE HEADS To starboard with a Sealand Vacuflush toilet, a washbasin, and a separate shower stall. Hans Grohe mixer taps and shower controls. Towel rails, a mirror, and a shaver socket.

SOUND SYSTEM Pioneer Single CD / radio stereo system, interfaced with AUX input from Linn Classik. Bose 131 cockpit speakers. 

TELEVISION 

SALOON Sharp Aquos 20” Flatscreen TV, flush mounted in TV locker in saloon. Status omni directional aerial at masthead. Linn Classik DVD/CD player in saloon TV locker with stowage for CDs and DVDs. I-pod 40GB and cables linked to PC and Classik. 

OWNER’S Sharp Aquos 20” Flatscreen TV in owner’s stateroom. STATEROOM Toad 12V DVD including IR eye in owner’s  stateroom in locker behind TV, connected via amplifier to a pair of Linn Deskreet speakers in the headling.

ENGINE Perkins / Sabre M115T. Parallel plumb engine and genset Racor filters in workshop so both can run off a single unit, including vacuum gauges.

ROPE CUTTER Ambassador AM15 rope-cutter on propshaft.

 AIR CONDITIONING / 220V Cruisair reverse cycle system, comprising of 16000 BTU units each in saloon, in owner’s   HEATING stateroom, for both forward cabins, with black SMX digital controllers and single water circulating pump.  

 WATERMAKER Seafresh 206A watermaker 220V AC 95 litres per hour, including permanent connection of    SeaFresh service / flush system. 

Tankage and Plumbing

FUEL 1050 litres approximately (230 imp/277 US gallons) in GRP tank.  

 WATER 950 litres approximately (210 imp/250 US gallons) in GRP tank.  

 TANK TENDER GAUGES Tank Tender system for 2 fuel and water tanks in workshop.  

 HOT WATER From an insulated approximately 76 litres (16 imp/20 US gallons) tank heated by the engine’s heat exchanger, or by thermostatically-controlled 220V, 2kW immersion heater elements powered by the generator or dockside power.  

 PRESSURISED HOT   AND COLD   FRESHWATER SYSTEM   

 HOLDING TANKS  Polypropylene holding tanks to both heads, with Wema gauges and gravity discharge or deck pump out system.  

 MANIFOLD SYSTEM Standard seawater inlets upgraded to a stainless steel manifold system so that intakes are via two seacocks with oversized strainers and manifold system.   

Electrics

 SHIP’S SUPPLY  24V.  

 RINGMAIN 220V AC ring main with seven double, 3-pin Clipsal outlet sockets located as appropriate within the layout.  

 OTHER ELECTRICAL  12V cigar lighter type sockets at chart table, in twin guest cabin, and owner’s stateroom.  SOCKETS      Waterproof 12V socket and plug in port aft deck locker suitable for dinghy pump.         24V 2 pin Dri-Plug at pedestal with permanent live connection.     

 BATTERIES Domestic: bank with 4 x 6V 20 hr rated, and 4 x 6V additional 230 hr ‘deep-cycle’ batteries.   Engine start: 2 x 88Ah 12V batteries.  All batteries replaced in 2014.  

 BATTERY Mastervolt 220V MASS 24/100A battery charger.  MANAGEMENT Mastervolt System manager panel with battery monitoring.   Engine start to Service battery 24V ‘emergency’ link.  

 INVERTER Mastervolt 24V/2500W Sinewave inverter.  

SHOREPOWER 30A dockside power cable. Hubbell socket in coaming.   Second 220V/30A shorepower cable and socket for aircon leads.  

 INTERIOR LIGHTING Downlight type halogen lights in polished chrome finish, with downlighters over reading areas. Adjustable halogen lamps in headlining above headboard in owner’s stateroom, and above the saloon bulkhead. Flourescent lights and down-lights in each heads, as well as over the galley work surfaces. Reading light for each berth. Automatic light to drinks locker.  Auto door light in owner’s stateroom hanging locker. Red LED ‘courtesy’ footlights at deck saloon steps. Red Halogen overhead night light over galley. Flexi chart reading light at navigation station with red / white shade.  

 EXTERIOR LIGHTING Boom light, with rubber-covered toggle switch at pedestal.  Spreader lights and foredeck light – facing down. Light in lazarette. Aqua signal 41 stern navigation light. Steaming/deck floodlight. Tri-white anchor/navigation light at masthead.
