“JAN DE VRIES” was designed for a discerning yachtsman who wanted to cruise the world in complete comfort, but if necessary short handed and without crew. For comfort of the owner at sea, his cabin was created in the back with a queen size bed under the cockpit and ensuite bathroom.

Forward of the owners cabin is the full head room engine room, in which all machinery and systems are fitted. To port of the engine room the spacious galley is situated.

Above the engine room and galley is the deck salon in which one can have a meal, drinks or just relax with unlimited view of the surroundings. Also here is the navigation station with all necessary equipment. With the autopilot the yacht can even be steered from inside the deck salon.

Forward of the salon there are two guest cabins for four guests. They share one bathroom with shower stall.

Jan de Vries is equipped with all furling sails and can be fully controlled from behind the steering wheel. Under power the yacht has variable pitch propeller to adjust to any condition or sea state.

Medium displacement round bilged hull with negative transom, raked bow and fin keel with bulb. Built in aluminium (deck and bulkheads 5mm, hull 8mm). 3 watertight compartments by 2 bulkheads. Engine room with watertight & fire resistant door. One aluminium rudder on skeg. Ballast lead ± 13.5 tons Stainless steel fairlead holes, anchor chain pipe and bow protection plate with anchor hull-shell pocket.

Aluminium main deck covered with ± 22 mm Moulmein, quarter sawed teak in a bedding compound.


Aluminium flush Rondal deck hatches with gas cylinder hatch levers for fore peak lockers, cockpit lockers and lazarette hatches. Also seven flush Rondal hatches with Perspex over salon, guest cabins and deckhouse flooding the interior with natural light.

Stainless steel fittings, hardware and cleats. Stainless steel stanchions with wire lifelines, height 90 cm from deck.. Boarding gates on both sides. Closed pulpit with teak seat. Pushpit with teak seats and boarding gate. Stainless steel flagpole. Unvarnished teak cap rails.


Hero light tinted, double, thermal hard glass deckhouse windows in aluminium frames. ISO 414 tested.


2 x ± 1350 litres (2700 total) aluminium hull tanks with inspection manholes. Day tank of ± 150 litres. Electronic capacity meters at nav. station and galley corridor control panel. Tanks are installed amid ships for ideal ships trim.

Fresh water
2 x ± 700 litres (1400 total) aluminium hull tanks with inspection man holes. Electronic capacity meters at nav. station and galley corridor control panel. Tanks are installed under the saloon floor amidships to provide most ideal ships trim. Tanks inner site painted with epoxy coating.

Grey water 
1 ± 500 litres aluminium hull tank with inspection manhole. Electric level alarm at 80% full.


Hull down to waterline and deckhouse insulated by foam and sound damping foil. Hull inside painted with anti condensation paint.

The floors are installed on silencer rubber. Thorough attention is given to the sound insulation in accordance to advice from sound & vibration specialist. Engine room anti noise insulation down to water line by aluminium sheeting. Installations in engine room where re quired installed on rubber mounts.


Superstructure last painted in 2011 by Varadero de Denia. Colour Oyster White two compo nent system by Awlgrip. Hull last painted in 2003. Colour .Oyster White two component system by Awlgrip. Underwater hull last antifouling painted in 2011 with International Trilux 33, colour Navy Blue.

Engines & propulsion


Main engine 
Single Perkins Sabre M185C 6 cylinders diesel engine built year 2003. Continuous rating ± 185 Hp (140 kW) at 2100 rpm. This engine was modified by Perkins in 2009 to produce 210 Hp (157 kW). Engine with turbo charging and intercooling system. Wet exhaust with GRP mixer-silencer. 1x 24V ± 80 Amp alternator on engine for charging starter batteries. 1x 24V ± 140 Amp alternator on engine for charging service batteries. Engine nr: M185C/31S06718P Serial nr:4D50779U801314J. Last engine service November 2011

Engine running hours Approx. 1200 hours

Engine monitoring panel at steering wheel pedestal. Start and stop control. Analogue meters for RPM with integrated engine hour counter, oil pressure, water temperature and charging voltage. Water temperature and oil pressure alarm. Exhaust temperature meter next to pitch and throttle control.

Control System 
Electronic engine control units by ‘Straathof Scheepselectro’ located at helm station and navi gation station (new). Units operate clutch, throttle and propeller pitch.

ZF hydraulic gearbox model nr.: ZF80A-2.8 reduction 2.85 : 1 installed with separate oil cooling and flexible couplings. Serial nr.:3318001006

Prop shaft 
Water lubricated stainless steel type 316 Hundested propeller shaft. Hundested 4blade bronze ± 800mm diam. controllable pitch propeller



Fisher Panda AGT 6000 generator (4.7 kW at 2800 rpm) driven by Kubota Z482 2cyl diesel in sound shield box. External electrical 24V raw water cooling pump (Gianesschi & Ramazotti CB120RE). GRP whisper type exhaust with water separator. ± 1090 hours when specification listed. Start and stop control in galley. Automatic stop when overheating or low oil pressure. Automatic start at low service batteries. Generator engine last serviced in November 2011.

Air-conditioning & Heating Brand: Climma by Veco, Italy.

Capacity ± 88.000 BTU/h max, 54.000 BTU/h min. Reverse cycle system with two chillers in forepeak. Cooling liquid filled climate circulation system with seven individual fan coils. Five control units with remote control. System calculated that at an outside temp. of ± + 30° C an inside temp. of ± + 18°C can be achieved, at a seawater temp. of ± + 28°C. Heating system calculated that at an outside temp. of + 10° C an inside temp. of ± + 20° C can be achieved. 

Heating system
Webasto Thermo 230 heavy duty heating system for heating the climate control circulation system and the ships hot water supply. Thermostat controlled. Capacity ± 23 kW

Hydraulic power pack 
Lewmar hydraulic power pack installed in the engine room for the fol PACK lowing hydraulic functions: bow thruster, anchor windlass, winches, sail furls. Driven by PTO hydraulic pump on main engine or by 2 elec tric motor driven pumps powered by service battery.

Alarm for low oil level and high temperature. Emergency stop at steering pedestal.

Lewmar 300 SVTAH Hydraulic retractable bow thruster with proportional joystick control at helm station.

Steering gear
Whitlock Mamba Drive wheel steering. Wheel diameter 1.30 meter. Emergency tiller.

Fuel system 

Separate fuel pumps (2x Jabsco VR100, 105 ltr/min.) for lifting fuel from SB or PS fuel tanks to day tank. Automatic pump start at 80% day tank level. Acoustic and visual alarm. Two switchable Racor type fuel filters/water separators from day tank to the two main engine fuel filters. One Racor type fuel filter/water separator between day tank and generator fuel filter. One Racor type fuel filter/water separator between day tank and Webasto heater. Acoustic and visual water alarm at galley corridor control panel for water day tank, main en gine, generator and heater.

Water system 
Fresh water; Water pressure system with accumulator and 220V Grundfos heavy-duty pump. 1x24V Jabsco water pressure pump as backup. Pressure system with integrated UV, carbon, and anti-call filter. Hot water system with 3x 150 litres calorifiers heated by 220V system and/or Webasto heating system. Hot and Cold water shower at fore- and aft deck. 2x Spectra Newport 400 watermakers, new 2009. Capacity ± 60 ltr/h = ± 1440 litres per 24 hours each. Salt water: Intake and discharge through two standpipes in ER

Sewage system 
Grey/black water; 500 litres grey/black water tank with direct overboard, heavy duty F.E/I.T Diaphragm electric discharge pump (24V, 120 ltr/ min) and ship-shore discharge connection. Tecma electric fresh water flush toilets. Discharge from showers and sinks by sump reservoirs and automatic diaphragm pumps direct to grey/black water tank.

Bilge system 
Water sensors in 4 compartment (front, salon, engine room, aft) with audible and visual alarm at galley corridor control panel. Bilge manifold for 4 bilge compartments with automatic electronically controlled valves. One manually or automatically activated 24V electric heavy-duty F.E/I.T Diaphragm bilge pump (24V, 120 ltr/ min). Direct overboard discharge. Separate bilge system for lazarette with float switch alarm and manual or automatic activation of one heavy duty electric Rheinstrom Diaphragm bilge pump. Planning is to re-arrange piping so grey/black water pump can act as by-pass/back-up sys tem. Bilge control display at galley corridor panel.

Deckwash & Firefighting system
Water connections on fore and aft deck. Water pressure either from fresh water system or from Jabsco Flowjet saltwater pump.

Engine room: 1x small and 1x heavy duty mechanical ventilation system (Gianneschi) with temperature control. Accommodation: Natural ventilation throughout the yacht by hatches and stainless steel dora dos. Mechanical air ventilation in owners bathroom.

Electrical system
Professional electrical installation built by Cornelis Jongkind -The Netherlands. Main 220V fuse board with automatic breakers in engine room. Main 24V fuse board including analogue indications and main switches for service and hy draulic groups in engine room. Cut-off switches with analogue voltmeters for engine starter batteries and generator starter batteries in engine room. Electrical control panel in galley corridor with automatic breakers for 24V appliances. Victron BMV501 battery monitor. Monitoring of shore power connection and inverter power by analogue Volt and Ampere meters. Generator control panel with indications for high oil and engine temperature, low cooling water level, low voltage and fault. 12/24/220V receptacles. One generator running for approx 8hr is sufficient for 24 hr of electric power when under sail or in anchor mode.

24V DC. 220V-50Hz AC with reverse polarity indication.

Start set main engine: 1x 24V consisting of a maintenance free,lead acid battery of ± 120 Ah/Year 2010 Seaworthy stowed in engine room with external ventilation. Start set generator: 1 x 12V consisting of 1 maintenance free lead acid battery of totally ± 110 Ah/ Year 2010 Seaworthy stowed in engine room with external ventilation Service set consisting of 12 x 2V deep cycle maintenance free gel batteries of totally ± 1200 Ah/ Year 2003 Seaworthy stowed under salon floor with external ventila tion. Emergency set: 6 x 12V for VHF/ SSB, consisting of 6 maintenance free batteries of total ± 60 Ah /Year 2003 Seaworthy stowed under galley corridor breaker panel with external ventilation.

1 x 120A Victron 5kVA Quatro (2010) automatic charger/inverter with VE. Bus multi control remote for service batteries. 6 x 25A Victron Phoenix automatic charger for service batteries 2x DC-DC converters for charging main starter batteries and emer gency batteries. Generator starter battery solely charged by generator alternator.
Extra ± 180 Amp. main engine alternator for charging service batteries.

3x 24V - 220V /3000Watt and 3x 24V - 220V/2500Watt Victron Phoe- nix inverters (16.5 kW total). All on board 220 V systems run continu- ously from this inverter bank.

Shore Power 
2 x single phase shore power intake 220V, 50/60 Hz in aft cockpit coaming on PS. Shore power monitor on control panel in galley corridor. Mastervolt IVET-D 7.5kVA/30A ship shore isolation transformer in lazarette. 2x ship-shore cable of 20m with waterproof plugs.

Interior lights 24V including dimmable halogen spots, indirect lighting, emergency lighting and red night lights. TL-lamps in engine room. Deck lighting by 24V halogen spots: spreader lights, cockpit light and built-in boom lights. Sail-up lights on bottom spreader.
