Originally built for the Canadian Coast Guard in Quebec, Beauport was designed, constructed and classed for light ice breaking, exceeding Lloyd’s specifications. She spent her first 30 years operating year round in fresh water on the St. Lawrence Seaway, originally accommodating a crew of 34. In 1993, when she was converted to a luxury yacht, there were a number of cabins removed to make way for guest accommodations, a large master cabin and a main salon. In 1999, BEAUPORT was moved to Jacksonville, where she underwent a 6 month mechanical refit of all engines and operating systems, wherein the owner spent more than 4 million dollars on the upgrades. In the spring of 2002 new John Deere 115 KW generators with hospital grade sound shields were installed as well as a back up 150 KW Isuzu, a massive 8 Ton hydraulic deck crane and Koopnautic 40 sq st ft stabilizers. She is tremendously stable & efficient, burning only 34 gallons per hour at cruise for both engines and one of her generators. Starting at the forward end of the main deck are the twin anchor capstans. These capstans feature independent motors and are independently controlled. Anchor chain is 1 ¼ inch stud link with 8 shots (720') on the Stbd. side and 9 shots (810') on the Port side. Anchors are both 2,000 lb. Navy stockless. Next aft on centerline is an electric hydraulic crane installed in August of 2000. The crane has a Safe Working Load capability of 16,000 lbs at 28 ft. reach. The crane cable is 7/8 inch dia. and the crane is controlled with a remote console on the end of a 30 foot pendant as well as a console on the port side of the crane base. Next aft on centerline is the hatch leading to the cargo hold, while to port and stbd. are the tenders. To Port is the 29 foot Blackfin, to stbd is the 22 foot Boston Whaler. There is access through the doghouse between the tenders to the crews quarters. On the Foredeck aft is covered alfresco dining for 12 on a varnished teak slatted table and chairs. Next aft is the main deck house. The forward 2/3rds (approximately) of the fore and aft portion of this structure is flush to the sides of the vessel full beam. The remaining 1/3 (approximately) is set in from the sides allowing side decks accessible from the interior of the vessel and in turn leading to the aft deck.
On the centerline at the forward end of the house is a door leading to the main fore and aft granite passageway through the main deck house. At the forward end of this passage, to port next to the centerline doorway are stairs down to the lower crew’s accommodations. To port of the crew stairs is the Main Office. This room has four opening polished brass portholes, teak parquet floors, painted paneling and varnished trim, with four workstations.
To starboard is the main dining salon. There are two large wine racks as well as built in china and glass cupboards on the aft wall. The dining table seats 12. The interior was remodeled during the summer of 2000 and features large rectangular windows that replaced four of the five portlights that were originally installed. The windows are of 1/2 inch scratch resistant Lexan set in custom built S/S frames.
Continuing aft to a short athwartships section of passageway at the forward end of the engine room trunk, this passageway leads to port and provides access to both the accommodation stairs to the Owner's Deck as well as the doorway to the Main Saloon.
The main salon is a large, comfortable gathering area that was converted to this use from three separate compartments. Forward in this area is a conference area/library, aft is an entertainment center with a large Mitsubishi TV, a Dennon Sound System, a VCR and a DVD movie center, centrally located, built into a console, is an electric piano.. The paneling and attendant joinerwork is stained cherry. The original brass portholes have been replaced with large rectangular 1/2 inch thick, scratch resistant Lexan windows set in custom made stainless steel frames. On centerline, separating the salon from the main fore and aft passage is the engine room trunk. Contiguous to the aft end of the engine room trunk to starboard is a large dry stores pantry. At the aft end of the salon is an etched glass door leading to a short thwartships passageway.
The main fore and aft granite passageway continues aft to starboard of the engine room trunk. Engine room access is from this fore and aft passageway through a steel door in the trunk.
To starboard on the main deck opposite the engine room trunk is the large commercial galley. There are two entrances, one at the forward end, another at the aft end, of the galley. Recent upgrades to the vessel have seen the replacement of the original galley portholes with large rectangular Lexan windows set in custom made stainless steel frames. At the aft end of the galley is a large walk-in refrigerator, and next to it is a walk-in freezer. Along the outboard side of the galley is a long stainless steel counter with two separate large deep twin sinks, Kitchenaid disposals, a commercial dishwasher, and trash compactor. Forward is a Hoshitaki commercial icemaker. The stove is a large stainless steel commercial electric cooker and Kitchenaid double oven. All cabinetry including the prep island with eating counter topped with black granite is fabricated of stainless steel and is new as of August of 2000.
At the aft end of the main fore and aft passageway is an athwartships passage leading to varnished doors and screened doors that open both to port and starboard for access to the side and aft decks. At centerline of this athwartships passageway is an accommodation stairway leading to the lower guest deck. To starboard of the accommodation stairway is a continuation of the fore and aft passage that leads to four main deck guest cabins. The two forward cabins have single bunks, desks, and lounge areas and an opening port. Each of these cabins also has a wash basin. The two aft cabins have been converted to a double bunk with a desk and chair. The starboard and port double cabins have their basins replaced with a modern sink/makeup vanity center. Each of these cabins also has an opening port. In the passageway are two shared heads, marble trimmed each with a Vacu-flush toilet and shower stall.
There are five more guest cabins on the lower level. Two of these are doubles and the remaining three are singles. The double stateroom forward to starboard has its own ensuite bathroom complete with Vacu-flush toilet, shower and sink. The remaining rooms each have their own wash basin. There are two additional bathrooms on this level with Vacu-flush toilets and showers.
Outside on the aft end of the main deck is a working deck with a large capstan and access to the lazarette through a hatch in the deck and access to the lower deck via a thwartships ladder.
Owner's Deck (Above Main Deck; below Pilothouse)
Forward on the Owner's Deck is a full walk around Portuguese Bridge with access to the Foredeck. Aft of the Portuguese Bridge is the master stateroom with centerline king-size bunk. There are built-in couches and desk to starboard forward with dressers and armoires to port. There is a chest of drawers and armoire to port aft. Forward is a large cabinet for Symphonic TV/VCR connected to the Sea Tell satellite system.. This area is painted and has varnished oak trim. The sole is carpeted. On the port side aft is a walk-in closet with a fridge & safe. There is a Jacuzzi tub to starboard in the Stateroom, bathroom with Vacu-flush toilet, wash basin and shower are starboard aft.
Aft is a full width athwartships passageway with separate screen doors to port and starboard out to the decks. This passageway has a carpeted sole. Aft is a captain's cabin with a double sized bunk, dresser, closet and desk and a private head with shower, Vacu-flush toilet and sink. Outside of the door to this cabin are the stairs down to the main deck and to the Skylounge. Outside on the Owner's Deck is a large boat deck area with the top of the engine room trunk and the funnel centrally located. To port and stbd. of the engine room trunk are the knuckle cranes used to launch the rescue boat and the 16' Novurania RIB kept in chocks on this deck. The remainder of this deck is large enough to land a helicopter and has been used for that purpose in the past. A set of stairs leads up to the Skylounge aft deck. Aft is access to the main aft deck working area.
In the pilot house there are opening doors port and starboard to the wing stations. There are four drop windows across the front. The room is air conditioned with two Marine-Air units mounted in cabinets port and starboard. Aft is a bench seat and a chart table. To port of the ship's wheel is an “L” shaped navigation center built to accommodate the autopilot, 72 mile radar and PC navigation system with 17" monitor running Nobeltec moving map software with a complete set of CD-Rom charts. The original ship's steering is via a wooden ship's wheel on a Hyland hydraulic steering motor. The pedestal holds a Henry Brown & Sons magnetic compass. Two of the forward window panels are fitted with wipers. To starboard of the wheel are the Westinghouse air controls for the main engines along with shaft RPM indicators. Outboard to starboard is a ship's telegraph which can be used in an emergency to signal orders to the engine room.
Immediately aft of the pilot house through a door to stbd. is the fully air conditioned Sky Lounge. This area has large bronze framed windows, two of which drop. This area also has a teak and holly sole. To starboard is a wet bar and fridge. In the port aft corner are the stairs down to the Owner's Deck. A door opens aft onto a covered open Lounge and alfresco dining there is access down to the Owner's 01 level and access up to the Flybridge via stairs.
